Six Things To Know Before Building A Multi-Million Dollar Producing Business.

On October 2014 a call came in. It was my old friend James, I hadn't spoken to him in over a year. He called to inform me of a business project he was taking on, expanding a superfood supplement company that showed success in the European and Asian market. Now it was time for the US.

Over the course of 48 months we established a distribution that brought in 252 million dollars in sales, earning us a profit of 98 million dollars. Success story, right?

It is said that every public victory was first preceded by a private struggled.

Here are six things you need to know to build a multi-million dollar business.

  1. Be ready to go the extra mile. You will lose sleep. Be ready to wake up earlier and go to sleep late. You will need to be available to handle surprises and fires that will pop up. Be ready to cancel extra activities like hobbies. You will need to use any extra time for your high leverage activities that move your business forward. You will be out of balance at times missing vacations, and time away from your family and friends. Therefor is very important to enrolled your family in the vision. Once you reach your goal be ready to share in the spoils of war with your family who also sacrificed for your business by sacrificing time away from you.
  2. Find a product that you can sell for profit. This one is pretty simple to understand. I would also add to this, that if you can find a product that is inclusive in the helping of others, you have a winner!
  3. Create leverage. You need to organize and lead people. There is a saying that goes,”If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go Far, go together”. There will be tools and systems available in your field. Find them and master them.
  4. Find a mentor in your field. There is no short cut to success, but! If there is something that is close to a shortcut is a mentor or a coach. When you find one make sure they have done, or have extensive experience in what you're setting out to accomplished.
  5. Set Goals! Clarity is power. Most businesses fail to push pass their struggles because they don't have a clear vision that inspires them. Nietzche said “He who has a why to live can bear almost any how”. Breakdown your goals in three stages. Outcome goals, what your setting out to accomplish in the marketplace. Daily Method of Operations goals (DMO), what are your daily task and high leverage activities. Use the 80/20 rule here. And Identity goals, who are you, what are you striving to become. Like Jim Rohn (America's Foremost Business Philosopher) said “Success is not something your pursued, success is something you attract by becoming an attractive person” .
  6. Take massive consistent imperfect action! Now take action don't wait. Your job is to create momentum. Momentum is created through massive consistent action. Consistency makes people look super human. The reality is they just master the basics and were very consistent. Don't wait for everything to be perfect. Through imperfect action you will discover the road to perfect action. Just jump! And build the plane on the way down!
